The causes of one-way pulley of alternator are as follows:

The traditional power transmission is belt drive mode: the power transmission between engine and generator is completed by belt and other parts. Small speed changes on one side of the engine can cause the belt to work unsteadily, slip, and produce noise with it, even reduce the life of the belt. Based on this, some manufacturers have been inspired by the use of several kinds of one-way clutches on the starter. Since the beginning of the 21st century, they have developed and manufactured the automobile generator pulley with one-way clutch inside, and developed a drive system with high reliability which can absorb the speed change.

What is a generator one-way pulley:

"OAP" is the abbreviation of one-way pulley

One way alternator pulley is also called alternator overrunning pulley

Commonly known as the generator with clutch, in fact, is the one-way alternator pulley.

The one-way belt pulley of generator is composed of an outer ring which matches the cross-section shape of multi-v-belt, a clutch unit composed of stamping inner ring, outer ring and double needle roller bearing, a shaft sleeve and two sealing rings. In order to prevent the influence of water and other dirt, a protective cover is installed on its outer end face.

Its function is to decouple the alternator from the engine front accessory belt drive system, because the alternator has the highest rotational moment of inertia in the engine front end accessory belt drive system. This means that the one-way pulley of the generator is a multi wedge belt, which can only drive the alternator in one direction.

What are the characteristics of generator one-way pulley, what are the differences between traditional generator pulley and generator one-way pulley, and how to distinguish true and false one-way pulley?

1. It has one-way slip performance, and its basic principle is similar to the one-way clutch gear on the starter

2. It can be divided into outer ring and inner ring. If the speed of inner ring (i.e. rotor speed) exceeds that of outer ring during operation, the pulley will slip immediately, and the inner ring and outer ring will separate.

3. There is a plastic cover on the port to prevent dust from entering the interior, commonly known as dust cover.

4. It is directly rotated on the rotor shaft by the thread on its back. Therefore, there is no hexagon nut on the outer face of the wheel

5. The ordinary pulley is triangular and the unidirectional pulley is wedge-shaped, which makes the generator get good performance in operation

6. It must be fixed or removed with special tools: due to the special structure, the new belt pulley must be tightened or removed with a special tool. The main part of the special tool is the mandrel matching the teeth in the pulley (the outer diameter of the mandrel is 19.99mm, and the number of teeth of the mandrel is 33)

7. Must be equipped with standard bit: (1) it can be selected with a diameter of 10 and 12, with a length of 70mm. (2) It can be used with 10 and 6 angle bits. The length is 70mm.

What are the benefits of installing a one-way pulley?

1. The performance improvement of the front-end accessory belt drive system is as follows:

Reduce belt vibration

Reduce belt tension

Reduce the tension stroke of belt tension pulley

Increase belt life

Reduce the noise of belt drive

Increase the speed of the alternator when the engine is idling

Improve the belt transmission noise and slip of the generator when shifting gears

The bumps and impact of the transmission are not as strong as before when the transmission is up and down. The reaction speed should be a little faster. The idle speed jitter and the sound should be lighter. This can improve the driving experience

2. When the engine speed is less than 2000 rpm, the one-way pulley of alternator can decouple the inertia moment of generator from the belt system of engine front-end accessories. Whether the decoupling function of the one-way pulley works depends on the load condition of the engine (torsional vibration amplitude), the inertia moment of the generator and the load condition. In addition, the unidirectional pulley also decouples the inertia moment of the generator when the engine speed drops sharply when the vehicle shifts.
